Solid Scrap Quilt - Red

Solid scrap quilt #2 is just the same as the first one, but with a red binding and a different backing. You read in my previous post that I made too may blocks and therefore had to make another quilt. You know what? I only used about 35% of all the solid squares I had in the box. Does that mean I have to make 4 more of these quilts?

The red I chose was Kona Cardinal. It went nicely with this rainbow print that had a lot of red in it. I actually chose the backing first, but I knew that one of these quilts needed to have a red binding. Sometimes they just talk to me like that.

A rainbow quilt that isn't too rainbowy. It is a nice change for me. But don't worry, the next one will be a true rainbow quilt. Can't not use scraps to make a rainbow quilt.

Solid Scrappy Quilt - Blue

I've been trying to use up scraps this year (and last year) but I hadn't used any of the solid scraps yet. All of my solids scraps are cut into 2.5" squares and stored in boxes. Most of them are left over from making Minecraft quilts or Post Card quilts so there are tons of colors in my boxes.

When I was making the 4 patches, I accidently used the outside border pieces and made too many, so I got in my box and grabbed some more pieces. Yep, there is a second quilt coming...

For this quilt, I chose a triangle rainbow print for the back and a dark navy blue for the binding. I like that it is fun, but not too bright.

You can see in this photo, that I used EVERY color, even the natural tones of light brown and shades of gray. Light, dark, medium - they all go. No scrap left behind! Up next is the red version.

A little I Spy Quilt

I've recently finished this I Spy Quilt. It has 80 unique squares and will be fun for someone to play find and seek with it. In the past I've made them without any sashing, but this one has 1" sashing and I think it looks very nice.

The backing is a black print which just blends in nicely and doesn't distract from all the fun prints. I love the cherry print on the white background in this next picture and the scissor print in the second one. It was several years ago that I cut up all my I Spy fabrics and made them into kits. After I finished quilting this one, I got 3 more sets out and laid out all the squares so they are ready to sew whenever I need one. No thinking will be involved!

It felt very good to get to work in my sewing room. We've been busy working in the yard and pouring cement amongst many other things. I've got a couple more quilts almost finished and ready to share with you.
