Down the Pipe Quilt Pattern

I'm on a roll this month! This is my next pattern called Down the Pipe.  This is a modern quilt that can look masculine or feminine depending on the fabrics that you choose. I chose to use some cross hatch in black, mustard, and aqua. This is the throw size, but the pattern is written in 5 different sizes from baby to king.

I think this fabric does not picture well from far away so I put this one in here for you to see. Cross hatch fabric is some of my current favorites!

This black and yellow version was my original and I just love it! But I didn't have the right fabrics in my stash to make this.

Christmas is still on my mind so I keep going to this color scheme of winter blue and red. Kind of reminds me of downhill skiing. What do you think?

Here is the baby version. It is so cute with those little strawberries! You can find Down the Pipe pattern in my shop.

Knot So Quilt Pattern

This pattern is called Knot So and it is one of my new patterns. There are 2 throw sizes included in this pattern. The one I made is the smaller version. It is a fun and easy quilt to make. Below is the larger throw size.

The baby size has two borders added to it to make it a bit larger. You could add them to any of the quilts, but the directions are only included in this size.

I love this version with a navy background. Makes the medium blue and the gray look like boxes hiding underneath it. Find the Knot So Pattern in my etsy shop. 6 sizes baby to king.

Captain's Log

This is a new pattern called Captain's Log. The design can be changed just by using different fabrics in different places. I had a lot of fun playing around with it. I used 3 prints in this version, but you can also just use 1 or 2 (see ideas below).

I chose the backing fabric before I picked the front fabrics. It is such a pretty print I've had in my stash for a while. So nice to use what I have this year.

I had a hard time choosing which one of these to make. I really loved this Christmas version, but I didn't have the fabric for it. Red and aqua are my Christmas colors this year.

This baby boy version is so cute. It would also look good in some soft pinks with gray for a little girl too. Or maybe in some more modern colors.

This is a 2 fabric version with a background (instead of 3 fabrics). I love the dark background with the teals. Such a striking quilt.

This one is also a two fabric version. I would have made this one, but I thought I should do the three fabric version for the cover quilt.

Just for fun, I did this wintery version with one fabric and a background. The white is the fabric and the blue is the background. This would look great all winter, not just for Christmas!

Which one do you like best? Captain's Log is available in my shop here

Some Postcard Quilts

It has been a crazy month already! Two postcard quilts were ordered pretty much at the same time so we (yep, my family helps make this one) got the blocks made and laid out a couple weeks ago. This first one is a queen size. Our huge polydactyl cat named Rosy was very curious as to what we were doing outside on this very cold day!

The two pillow shams went with the King size quilt below. These are a fun addition to the bed size quilts.  It was way too cold this  morning to get a picture outside of this king size quilt and I forgot to get one yesterday when I finished it. I forgot how big a king size is. It filled my quilting frame to the edges.

Whew, so glad to get that one finished and mailed off. I haven't quilted this much in what seems like forever. I am now ready to take a break and eat some turkey!

Mini HST Wall Quilt

22.5" x 25.5"
So, no judging here please. I am mostly blogging about this so I can remember for next time that I don't want to quilt on the diagonal at least not without some practice. This little quilt is made from half square triangles that finish at 1.5". They were leftover from a quilt I made several years ago and I thought it might be nice to make something for the wall.

I only quilted in the white spots and used some l's and some back and forth. But between the diagonal quilting and the thickness of the HSTs it is so sloppy looking. And a bit puffy in a few spots. At least from a distance you can't tell too much.

By the time I'd done a couple sections, I pretty much gave up on doing it nicely and I was just going for done. I've got two quilts I need to make and this one was loaded on the longarm so it had to be finished - pretty or not.

Note to self - let's not do little triangles! And for goodness sake, don't try to custom quilt it when you  are in a hurry!

A Modern Style Quilt with an Old Fashioned Vibe

60" x 72"

I sold a bunch of my fabrics about a year and a half ago. And by bunch, I mean yards and yards and yards of it. Don't worry...I still have a bunch! I wasn't asking that much per yard so I decided to keep these half square triangle pieces I had already cut with my accuquilt cutter because I knew that I could make them into a quilt. I just needed a pattern that would make use of them.

The only backing fabric print that I had that matched was this marbled blue one because I sold all the old fashioned, floral prints. They are just not my style. I do love this dark/light pattern though as it seems to have taken these old fashioned prints and added a modern flare to it. Maybe just a little, enough for my liking.

And it feels good to make another quilt with fabric that I had on hand. Things are looking cleaned up and organized around the sewing room. What shall I work on next? I have a small wall hanging that is calling my name.

Muted Scrappy Rainbow Quilt

I have been slowly working on using up leftover scraps this year. This top of this quilt is mostly scraps leftover from a quilt I made several years ago. I had more than half of the quarter square triangles made too because there were erroneously made with that first quilt. Those were my starting point for this quilt. I found a pattern that would use them, plus add in the pretty muted rainbow fabrics as well.

The blocks are 6 inches finished. This is an nice pattern for using any of your 2.5" scraps. I will probably use it again if I have leftover gray fabric. I had tons of this gray fabric on a bolt in the closet so I used it for the back and binding too. It's a lovely quilt. I am pleased to get all those pieces out of the closet and not have to buy any fabric.

A Little Wall Hanging for Me!

While I haven't been getting as much sewing time as I would like lately, I have been cleaning up around my sewing room. I had these tiny little scraps left from a quilt I made years ago. They were the corners that got cut off from a snowball block. They were already sewn into HST so all I had to do was trim them.  These little half square triangles finish at 1 inch!!! It's the smallest block I've ever made. I chose this star pattern - can you see how they are interacting?

It took longer to sew this top together than a baby quilt! I just worked on it one section at a time and soon it came together. I took a photo of each quadrant to make sure nothing got turned around while sewing.

I wanted to do something different for the quilting. Straight lines or diagonal lines didn't seem like they would work, so I thought of something curvy. I quilted a loop in every square alternating up and down so I could quilt across the rows. Not perfect, but I love the amount of quilting on it. It has nice texture and is laying perfectly flat.

I've also been working on 2 lap quilts, and I Spy quilt, and another wall hanging made from some bright leftover HSTs from another project. Nice to have projects laying around for when I can sneak in some sewing time.

Harbor Side Quilt Pattern

I've been dreaming of the water this summer. Harbor Side is the result of my dreaming! I love the watery blues and mossy greens in this quilt. The pattern is just as fun as the fabrics! I've made the throw size, but the pattern comes in 5 sizes from baby to king.

The best part of this pattern is that I've written it for fat quarters, yardage, and jelly roll strips. You can use one or all three if you like! I used half of a jelly roll and then added a few fat quarters. The quilt comes together quickly because of the strip piecing directions.

I know you always want to see the back of my quilts, so here it is. Two of my favorite blue fabrics with a little green to slit it up.

You can find Harbor Side pattern in my shop. I've got some additional colorways designed for you to see in the listing to inspire you. I hope you're getting some vacation time in this summer. I'm hoping to get some time soon  myself!

Scrappy Rainbow Quilt

I'm still working my way through my abundance of scraps. This one is fun - I always like when a rainbow is on the diagonal. The colors scraps are cut 2.5 x 3.5 so I used my 2.5" strips for this quilt. I also used some scraps of Kona snow cut to 1.5" x 6.5".

So many yummy fabrics! I found this arrow print in my stash of backing fabrics. Not my favorite I must say, but everything else I had didn't go at all.

The binding was a challenge. Usually I would have gone with snow, but the back is whiter than the front so neither white or snow was going to work. I tried blue and red, but didn't like those either. My husband came to my rescue and told me to try purple. Yep, I like this purple.

Summer is the perfect season for a happy rainbow quilt. Especially since we have had so. much. rain. I'm not really ready for the hot weather, but at least the rain is finally done and spring was cool.  I'm happy for any time I get to spend in my sewing room no matter the weather!

Solid Scrap Quilt - Red

Solid scrap quilt #2 is just the same as the first one, but with a red binding and a different backing. You read in my previous post that I made too may blocks and therefore had to make another quilt. You know what? I only used about 35% of all the solid squares I had in the box. Does that mean I have to make 4 more of these quilts?

The red I chose was Kona Cardinal. It went nicely with this rainbow print that had a lot of red in it. I actually chose the backing first, but I knew that one of these quilts needed to have a red binding. Sometimes they just talk to me like that.

A rainbow quilt that isn't too rainbowy. It is a nice change for me. But don't worry, the next one will be a true rainbow quilt. Can't not use scraps to make a rainbow quilt.

Solid Scrappy Quilt - Blue

I've been trying to use up scraps this year (and last year) but I hadn't used any of the solid scraps yet. All of my solids scraps are cut into 2.5" squares and stored in boxes. Most of them are left over from making Minecraft quilts or Post Card quilts so there are tons of colors in my boxes.

When I was making the 4 patches, I accidently used the outside border pieces and made too many, so I got in my box and grabbed some more pieces. Yep, there is a second quilt coming...

For this quilt, I chose a triangle rainbow print for the back and a dark navy blue for the binding. I like that it is fun, but not too bright.

You can see in this photo, that I used EVERY color, even the natural tones of light brown and shades of gray. Light, dark, medium - they all go. No scrap left behind! Up next is the red version.
