Whispering Waves Quilt Pattern

64" x 72"

I designed Whispering Waves to be a soft and flowing quilt pattern. I chose to make the throw size quilt in gray, tan, and dusty blue for a soft almost neutral look. The pattern also can be made in a twin or queen size. Yardage in 4 fabrics plus a background is all you need to make this quilt.

All three sizes can be made traditionally, making 2 half square triangles at a time. There are bonus instructions for the throw size to make the quilt with the Accuquilt 4" HST die. Using the die skips all the trimming of squares! Here are some mockups I made. The first and the last give off a southwest vibe. And I like the cute navy, teal and pink colorway.

Get your copy of Whispering Waves in my shop. Tag me on Instagram. I'd love to see what you made with this pattern.

Accuquilt is having a sale for Labor Day - free shipping and 10% off. It's a great time to get the HST die if you don't have one. I love mine and use it all the time. Such a time saver!

Twisted Knot Quilt Pattern

This Twisted Knot quilt pattern has been in my design program for years and it has finally been finished! Many tweaks and changes have been made to this pattern for it to get to this point. I knew it would someday become a pattern, but I was never happy with it until I rotated the X's and found some color combinations that I love. It comes in 4 sizes from baby to king. The blocks are set on point, but as long as you are comfortable trimming that kind of quilt, you will find this an easy pattern.

As always, here are some of the color mockups that I loved. Using the blue as the square is stunning and I also love the off white squares in the red, white, and blue quilt.

Pebble Beach Quilt Pattern

62" x 74"

This is my new pattern called Pebble Beach. It comes in two sizes - Throw and Twin. I made this throw quilt in lovely neutral tones. There are shades of brown and gray. I had so much fun narrowing down my fabrics. I haven't made a neutral quilt in a long time. Who knew I had so many?

The background looks solid, but it's really a white-on-white print that was a shade in between Kona white and Kona Snow.

Here are a few examples in some different colors. I really like the soft navy background and the colorful prints in the second one.

Sand Bar Quilt Pattern

60 x 72

This is one of a set of 3 summertime beachy-themed quilt patterns I've been working on. Sand Bar comes in five sizes from baby to king. Sand Bar is made in three fabric colors. If you look closely, you will see the congruency of a fabric that runs through each set of colors.

The key to making this quilt look great is to choose a light fabric in each of the three colors as your main print. It should be lighter than all the others. If the fabrics match too closely, you will not achieve the same look as in the cover quilt. For the strips or scraps, choose fabrics that are medium to dark. The more variety the better. The number of 2.5” strips listed on the fabric requirements is the minimum needed. Use more to achieve a scrappier look. See the fabric requirements here.

One morning I had a great idea to try this pattern out in an analogous color theme. I chose this mango, pink, and purple colorway, but I think it would look great in any 3 analogous colors.

You can find Sand Bar in my shop.

Thunderbolt - A new quilt pattern

60" x 72"

I've got this beautiful new pattern called Thunderbolt. It's all finished up and ready for you! I made the throw size, but it also comes in baby, twin, queen, and king size. The pattern is written for 2 main fabrics and 8 coordinating prints. I chose to do 4 colors ways with 2 fabrics each.

I used a navy print and a cream print. The cream print has sea shells on it and looks great in person. Here are some more fabric ideas for you.

I love the black polka dot in this fun bee-themed fabric line.

Then there is the rainbow version. I think this would be really cute in the baby size too.

Hop on over to my esty shop to get your Thunderbolt.  pattern. Feel free to tag me on Instagram @theflemingsnine with your finished quilts.

Stitch and Flip Quilt

Here's another quilt made from 2.5" solid strip leftovers. This was surprisingly easy to sew and cut even though it was long. Long pieces usually give me trouble when I try to line them up on the cutting mat. But this one played nice.

I found this green print when I cleaned out the closet a month ago. It is old! It was hiding with some other prints I must have set aside to make a quilt years ago. I have added all those fabrics back into my stash.

It's a rainbow kind of spring this year! I am working on one more, but I think I should work on something else first. Maybe a pattern?

Postcard from Sweden Quilt

Throw size postcard quilt. I love making these. It's so nice to sew these colorful blocks together.

I used a teal binding this time. Trying something different. Looks good!

Rainbow Quilt from Scraps

I may not have gotten many quilts done this year as of yet, but I have been trying to use up scraps when I do get to work on one. This quilt is the result of all the leftover strips from the many postcard quilts I've made. I love that the custom quilting just came to me as I loaded the quilt on the frame.

I used some leftover strip pieces for the binding. It gives it a pop of color around the edge. I sewed the pieces on the diagonal, but I wonder if it would have looked better sewn straight. What do you think?

I had this colorful print in my backing fabric piles that I've been wanting to use. I think it's the perfect scale for this quilt.  I might have to make this one again, as I figured an easy way to piece those colored strips without having to do a tube. I just strip sewed 8 strips together and then cut them into 8 segments. Then I seam ripped off the next bottom pieces and attached them to the top. So much easier than sewing all the strips together and trying to cut the tube into 2.5' pieces.

Another Scrappy Quilt

54" x 66"

Another scrappy quilt made from 2.5" squares. This time I chose black. I'm not a huge fan of black but it is a striking quilt. And it fit the purpose of using those scraps. And I had tons of 2.5" black squares that needed to be used up.

Tried a pink red binding also. I'm usually a blue binding kind a girl, but this fabric just kept speaking to me - use me!

It feel so good to get some of these quilts finished up and out of the sewing room. More scrap quilt to come!

Luke's T-Shirt Quilt

This is my third t-shirt quilt for my kids. I'd love to say I made no mistakes, but that isn't happening. So much precision is necessary to make these quilts. Fortunately he had an extra shirt I could put in the place of the one I messed up and it happened to be the same color. I do love this quilt more than the first two because it has more smaller pieces. I think that adds so much to the look of the quilt. Dark gray minky on the back - so soft!

Old Mill Road - A Scrap Quilt Pattern

This is my new pattern called Old Mill Road. It's made with scraps but still has a color scheme to it. I didn't initially design this with a rainbow in mind, but decided to try it after I wrote the pattern. I  love it! This quilt sold before I even listed it in my etsy shop. They saw my pattern listing and she wanted the quilt.

This pattern comes in 5 sizes: Small Throw, Large Throw, Twin, Queen and King. I made the small throw in rainbow scraps.  The pattern has directions for piecing this in blocks instead of rows which I think is easier to put together. You can decide what colors you want to use as the pattern tells you how much you need for each row of color.

This is the original fabrics I designed it in. I was trying to design a jelly roll quilt, but it wasn't working out like I wanted. I always have scraps on my mind because I have so many of them so I decided to try that instead. So here are some ideas for your scraps in different color ways. The Bonnie and Camille one might be in my future.

Find the listing here in my shop. Have fun with your scraps this year!
