I'd love to say I made no mistakes, but that isn't happening. So much precision is necessary to make these quilts. Fortunately he had an extra shirt I could put in the place of the one I messed up and it happened to be the same color. I do love this quilt more than the first two because it has more smaller pieces. I think that adds so much to the look of the quilt. I just wanted to make a few notes. I didn't use an FFG needles like last time (unless I forgot to change it out, which is very likely.) This time I used a minky dot on the back instead of the fur-like minky. I had to piece the back to make it large enough and I didn't like how the minky looked like there were different dye lots even though there wasn't. Solid black binding. There are several different ways to do it, but I chose to use this <a href="https://www.etsy.com/listing/586620313/quilters-graph-paper-2-grid-set-plan?ref=yr_purchases" target="_blank">template </a>and <a href="https://www.etsy.com/listing/720545042/t-shirt-quilt-planner-kit-by-lcq-4-page?ref=yr_purchases" target="_blank">planner pages</a> from Lisa Capen Quilts on Etsy. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">I measured the minimum size of each logo on every shirt including the little logos also. I logged that info on the planning sheet by color. Then I loaded the template on inkscape and drew the boxes following the directions in <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MCwJpjnLv4E&t=544s" target="_blank">this video</a>. I ended up with this design, filling in the holes with extra t-shirt pieces. If you look closely, you will see that my blocks are hanging off 4 inches on each side. That is how I designed it bigger. But in hindsight I could have use the twin size template instead.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjkg-fFMTx5fRUuixVP4GOE8A2KcCLdCgrSoze6U1C6MUHkQFQfjgug5jJ4Veu2mZpkN0CSxD-FtsteAKTEzJ8xJIOGvXBhC-4laCXEyjBmEFuxlBlIW7KMtoVvf7a6k3f9ebtvTKldsspXpdkfqi2UpQkC3cBC-nhRByOqzqtWLNK8lPukZd1gSHhgPyzJ/s1056/Page%201.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1056" data-original-width="816" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjkg-fFMTx5fRUuixVP4GOE8A2KcCLdCgrSoze6U1C6MUHkQFQfjgug5jJ4Veu2mZpkN0CSxD-FtsteAKTEzJ8xJIOGvXBhC-4laCXEyjBmEFuxlBlIW7KMtoVvf7a6k3f9ebtvTKldsspXpdkfqi2UpQkC3cBC-nhRByOqzqtWLNK8lPukZd1gSHhgPyzJ/w494-h640/Page%201.jpg" width="494" /></a></div>I purchased this <a href="https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00AO8ND1G?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details" target="_blank">Heat Press Machine</a> because I will be making more t-shirt quilts for my kids. If I don't document this I will forget by the time I get to the next one, even though that should be in a couple months. Last and final note - I like the smaller blocks better, trimming close to the logo. Becca wanted 2 quilts because she has so many shirts so I ended up having to stretch the shirts a bit to fit the quilt size. <p></p><p>Hope this helps you too if you are thinking about making a t-shirt quilt. Remember to measure, measure, and measure again. Once it's cut that it! I only messed up once and fortunately I cut it too big and not too small. Best of luck to you!</p>Shannonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04471590149452641805noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5478040113382464590.post-58851625666429978742023-09-19T14:30:00.002-05:002023-09-19T14:30:22.464-05:00Clustered Gems<p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgn12xRN43GnPlL4MmYX37KU3n9UetwRzMkrD5xYsppETFFhBViolUxXFYwJNLPujd1ROJrGtTKP88hPDMds_trDEyxRulmXKzSvzmujfiefPJjkKWdEHe-A60VSJzV54Z9aFRKqnpaSS_0yWjbE97y9MF2tgD7YfqxiVvlsv5zfLmRrCaiPT1zSD5HEkph/s2888/IMG_5797.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2888" data-original-width="2490" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgn12xRN43GnPlL4MmYX37KU3n9UetwRzMkrD5xYsppETFFhBViolUxXFYwJNLPujd1ROJrGtTKP88hPDMds_trDEyxRulmXKzSvzmujfiefPJjkKWdEHe-A60VSJzV54Z9aFRKqnpaSS_0yWjbE97y9MF2tgD7YfqxiVvlsv5zfLmRrCaiPT1zSD5HEkph/w552-h640/IMG_5797.JPG" width="552" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">56 x 64</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">I had a layer cake hiding in my closet so I went on a search for a quilt to make with it. This one was finished in January, but it has been such a crazy hectic year I guess it slipped by me. I had a lot of solid 2.5" strips that were left over from cutting quilts from my solid fabrics. The bin was overflowing so it needed to be used. Went through the bin and pulled out every fabric that had at least 2 full strips. So this quilt is just a bit different than my typical bargello because I sewed it in 2 sections and then put it together. You can see that the pattern on top is repeated on the bottom. This made the big fabric tube so much easier to cut. BUT it takes 4 strips of each color. Yes, I had that many leftover strips!</div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiKM0psDZK8OLc8wM1tqBxN3a3Cg0Ulk5QU5Mt0s6a6EPW5n_3Hsdjz12BwSbzIGgqHfJR8THdOi_1uNi19hsM9gma-Y6ol05TI-yHBxc1mil3TkK9Z9Wy8lTzNSqEQOCpbYIlfSt2KhAllQN99S7oRCCWLdpqboY3zEJIDMw0qOW1MpUD7-1P9hJt3Gw/s4032/IMG_3957.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3024" data-original-width="4032" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiKM0psDZK8OLc8wM1tqBxN3a3Cg0Ulk5QU5Mt0s6a6EPW5n_3Hsdjz12BwSbzIGgqHfJR8THdOi_1uNi19hsM9gma-Y6ol05TI-yHBxc1mil3TkK9Z9Wy8lTzNSqEQOCpbYIlfSt2KhAllQN99S7oRCCWLdpqboY3zEJIDMw0qOW1MpUD7-1P9hJt3Gw/w640-h480/IMG_3957.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><p>I used a lime green binding because it just brightened up the quilt and I love that color!</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgYBQfUwOQVitwtJb8vUvRfxDE3UB0w7OOvSIyA8PAb4dfRbAWaDwNmqRkZh-2JjZr3oeRp_gwRHTxSS0rnqiFupIeh_wl5au9jrnhDNpov10h8AwZl4V-JHEnZzFtMVCNl4413nZLF_Gx6FjZBiLULowfLAvblEMEjLsjca3jPmgPjhZMfKr8FYf8J7g/s4032/IMG_3961.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3024" data-original-width="4032" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgYBQfUwOQVitwtJb8vUvRfxDE3UB0w7OOvSIyA8PAb4dfRbAWaDwNmqRkZh-2JjZr3oeRp_gwRHTxSS0rnqiFupIeh_wl5au9jrnhDNpov10h8AwZl4V-JHEnZzFtMVCNl4413nZLF_Gx6FjZBiLULowfLAvblEMEjLsjca3jPmgPjhZMfKr8FYf8J7g/w640-h480/IMG_3961.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><br /> Isn't she pretty folded on my couch? I had a bunch of 5" strips that I didn't want to put away because I loved the color combo and thought it would make a good quilt. So I grabbed some olive green to go with it and used the <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=muHD82Yhm14&ab_channel=MissouriStarQuiltCompany" target="_blank">tutorial here</a> to make the blocks. </p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEjwWXdEXmhqEGWq52jSjvwXjb5xbyFp8MH4A5-LnfIVMg6z-gTUD8aEBlKYXHiSBtT-LfhxXQKHEfxktU2HKpDav4jNDK80ep4qwMVjxNKCppB5VBPnFcCxSpcAXYr9nNKE4yRoFtG3-akbxp956pMcPkGLfhYlcewn0j-2OgvrkoU5lFbusKWoBMlRUg=s4032" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3024" data-original-width="4032" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEjwWXdEXmhqEGWq52jSjvwXjb5xbyFp8MH4A5-LnfIVMg6z-gTUD8aEBlKYXHiSBtT-LfhxXQKHEfxktU2HKpDav4jNDK80ep4qwMVjxNKCppB5VBPnFcCxSpcAXYr9nNKE4yRoFtG3-akbxp956pMcPkGLfhYlcewn0j-2OgvrkoU5lFbusKWoBMlRUg=w640-h480" width="640" /></a></div><p>I had some white on white dot print in my stash, so I decided to use that rather than a solid. It looks nice here, but I accidentally made 3 extra blocks and now I don't know what to do with them. They probably won't go in another scrap quilt because the background will stand out. But maybe they could do in a scrap quilt like <a href="http://theflemingsnine.blogspot.com/2021/03/blue-and-green-scrap-quilt.html" target="_blank">this one</a>.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEiKrsnXr7yA2vzarP-s2jcvOhROcFmfZ1-Z-k1UJASzCQsCkd7Exf3V5T4mCUPs7Ig3G_eXGWRxAUZsNz1IOi_yiIXls5TT1zfQWP1pLaaxqdUm3Xb8cG8JZFJwRWIPNdTJvHML4fxqWgRxN0zMjnJ17BcueiM2Mom2HyUp9W26IBJQ-nCrKSAtGBbttw=s4032" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3024" data-original-width="4032" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEiKrsnXr7yA2vzarP-s2jcvOhROcFmfZ1-Z-k1UJASzCQsCkd7Exf3V5T4mCUPs7Ig3G_eXGWRxAUZsNz1IOi_yiIXls5TT1zfQWP1pLaaxqdUm3Xb8cG8JZFJwRWIPNdTJvHML4fxqWgRxN0zMjnJ17BcueiM2Mom2HyUp9W26IBJQ-nCrKSAtGBbttw=w640-h480" width="640" /></a></div><p>Backing was a hard choice for me, but I went with a solidish looking dark blue.
