Scrappy Rainbow 16 Patch

This is a great pattern for using a jelly roll and a charm pack. I  just happen to have one of each laying around in these cute prints from connecting threads. I cut the jelly roll strips in half and then strip pieced the 16 patch pieces.

I am really trying to use up my stash this year, although there is not a strict "no buying" policy at my house! I found this green print in my backing bins. I purchased it at a local quilt shop a few years ago. I've pulled it out before, it's an odd color, but worked perfectly with this quilt. I planned carefully to that I would have enough left for the binding. I had this orange bird print in my stash which just so happened to match the fabric line on the front.

The fabric shelves are still full, so I've got a long way to go this year. But it will be fun to see how much I can get done while still writing patterns and doing customer quilts.  I also need to tackle the scrap batting pile by making some baby quilts. The list is a long one!

Pajama Party - A New Pattern

64" x 64" 

This is Pajama Party, a fun new quilt pattern! This quilt reminds me of good times when I was a kid. I would love to have some pj's in these colors.  This pattern comes in 5 sizes from baby to king and it is fat quarter friendly.

The fabrics in this quilt are called Lily and Loom Girl's Trip. I found a nice aqua print in my stash to go with it. Such fun colors!

Some Rainbow Quilts

I had a request for a square sized bargello quilt recently. Can you tell where I added some strips? This one is almost 70" x 70".  It ends up being the same size as a twin if you go by square inches. She wanted to hang it on her wall, so I added a hanging sleeve using the tutorial from Missouri Star Quilt Co.  Her directions were very easy to follow.

I also made a twin sized postcard quilt and a pillow sham to go with it. It was very cloudy when I took this picture. If I waited to take a picture with the sun out it will be freezing temps. So cloudy and warm it is.

The pillow sham is quilted with an envelope back. It's a nice touch to go with the quilt.

Solids and rainbows are such a fun way to quilt in January! But now that these two are finished, it's back to the regularly scheduled program.

Scrappy 16 Patch

My scrap bins were overflowing and I couldn't get them shut! What a terrible problem to have at the start of the new year...well no not really. Just means that it's time to make some scrap quilts! When I make a quilt, I typically like to have a color scheme, but my options were very limited because I didn't have a whole lot of orange, green, and brown since I had used them to make the pumpkin quilt.

For this quilt, I chose dark blue, aqua, olive/forest green, golden yellow, and shades of cream. I used all 2.5" squares from my scrap bins. There is still a bit left over of some of the colors but there is starting to be some room in my bins. I found a navy blue fabric from connecting threads that was a close match for the back and binding. This is a great pattern for using 2.5" scraps. What do you do with your scraps?

Patchwork Plus - A New Pattern

First finish of the new year is a new pattern! Meet Patchwork Plus, a jelly roll quilt pattern in three sizes - baby, lap/throw, and queen.

66" x 66"

This top one is a lap size quilt. It can be made with one jelly roll and some background fabric. I made mine with Bonnie and Camille prints. This quilt is a perfect combination of modern and traditional. When I look at it I think of my grandma for some reason!

36" x 36"

This one is the baby size made from some American Jane Pezzy Print jelly roll strips I had received from a friend. I love how the yellow binding adds to the bright and happy look of this quilt.

New Ironing Board Cover

My husband spent yesterday morning making me this new ironing board cover. It's wonderful! He used a half inch piece of plywood we had in the garage and cut it about 2 inches larger than my ironing board on each side. He added 1x2 boards to each side that fit pretty snug to the original top of the ironing board.

I used three layers of batting and 1 layer of canvas for the top. Then I used a staple gun to attach it to the underside of the top board. It fits on top of my original ironing board with the old cover still on. I need to make another cover for the original since it is falling apart. This new top is easily removable if I ever need to take me ironing board somewhere and it's light enough that its no trouble to move it.

I was thinking about painting the 1x2s black to match the legs of my stand since you can see it when you sit down.  It's so nice to have more room when I'm ironing.  We had everything on hand except the 1x2s and they only cost a couple dollars. I was even able to use batting scraps so that helped reduce the pile in the closet. Now to clean up the rest of the sewing room...
