Tree of Life Quilt + Giveaway Winner!

Congratulations to Roseanne N. who was the winner of last week's Double Up pattern Giveaway! Thanks to all who entered and left comments. If you wanted the pattern and didn't win you can find it in my pattern shop

89 x 89

I had a customer ask for a tree of life quilt last month and I had never heard of it before. I did some searching and found a few different varieties of this old pattern. She picked this simple version with just two colors.  Here is the free block from Mirkwood Designs that I used in this quilt. I added a 2 inch border to the outside to make it a touch bigger and help with the bias of the on point blocks.

She chose a cream colored thread even though you can't really tell in this picture. The blocks are 12" finished. Each block has 34 - 1.5" finished HSTs!  I got smart after the last quilt with little tiny pieces was so time consuming and bought an Accuquilt die to cut these triangles. It was so worth it!  I love using the dies to make HSTs and have almost every size now.  Quilt smarter, not harder!

  1. Lucky Roseanne; I'll be visiting your shop. The Tree of Life Quilt is beautiful. OMG the commissions you get; not only all of those HST but only using two solids. With this pattern, you do need good contrast so I can see why. I, too have all sizes of HST, they're a game changer. I use to whine when patterns call for 1" finished HST and I always thought of those as torture until I got the die.

  3. I love this quilt! Two colors was a nice choice. It makes this traditional pattern look really modern.

  6. What an amazing finish. Those HST are tiny! I’m glad you found something to make it easier.

  7. I was waiting all week to see what your finish would be. I didn't think it would be this one already! You rocked it:) But all I can think is boring while sewing it, same block, same color!!! But it is a beauty!!! And 3 people to hold it up:)

  8. Hi Shannon,
Thanks again for picking me! I am so lucky and blessed. What a beautiful quilt! Without reading anything I thought you had made something special for St. Patrick's Day. I have never heard of a tree of life block. Very cool! I think I am going to have to invest in an Accuquilt soon since I'm going to be starting on my Postcard soon. I want to enlarge it to a queen size. I know you made one that size - how many rows did you make yours? I am guessing 20 or 21 of the 5" block? ~smile~ Roseanne

  9. Oh lovely, a lot of work in this one, I do hope your customer appreciates it. I don't have a die cutter, I do have die cutter envy though.
