Red White and Blue Jelly Roll Waves

50 x 70

I had a custom request for a red white and blue jelly roll wave quilt. This is Myra's pattern that you can find here.  But this was a special request because he wanted three things on the back of his quilt...a pixilated cross, a flag, and the come and get it symbol.

I had to do a little research on the Come and Get It symbol to see what it was.

The Battle of Gonzales was the first military engagement of the Texas Revolution. It was fought near Gonzales, Texas, on October 2, 1835, between Texian settlers and a detachment of Mexican army soldiers.  You can read more about the story here, but it comes from the flag sewn from a woman's wedding dress that showed a lone star, an image of the cannon, and the words "Come and Take It."

Here's the back all finished with the three symbols that represent God, Country, and Guns.  The backgound on the front and the back as well as the binding is Kona Bone.

Postcard Quilt Along - Top

I've got my king sized quilt laid out on the design wall. It's a big one at 102" x 114". After we got it on the wall, I made some adjustments to the blocks. We had some duplicate triangles very close together so I rearranged the blocks to spread them out just a bit.

I did manage to get my top all sewn together, but I forgot to get a picture, so just pretend you see it here! I've read that there are over 20 people participating in this quilt along so hope on over to Sandra's Blog to see the variations on this quilt.

Black and Yellow Brick Quilt

61 x 72

This quilt has been sitting on my hallway rails since December patiently waiting for me to quilt it. Not because I didn't want to, but because I have been that busy.  But I finally got ahead of my schedule enough to get this quilted and bound.

The yellow pieces in this quilt came from my indecisiveness when I made my Splash of Color quilt. I think I tried 7 or 8 different yellows before deciding on just one for that quilt. Some of the black and white prints are scraps from that quilt too.

I used all the scraps I had on hand and didn't even have any left for the back. So unlike my usual back this one is just one fabric. It was a little boring so I only showed the corner!

Basket Quilt

81" x 81"

This is a very large lap quilt! Not sure why she wanted it to be so big since it won't fit a bed. You ask, I make!  I haven't made too many traditional patterns in my short quilting history, but I do like this one. It's a fairly straight forward pattern. There are several variations I found online, but she chose this simple layout that shows off the pink flowers and brown baskets.

I ordered some extra wide backing fabric from Marshal's Dry Goods. First time buying from them. I actually bought 2 fabrics - this pink one and a gray one with a different flower print. I think they are pretty nice especially for the price I paid.

This picture in the sun was closer to the real color of the fabric.

Mint green fabric is more challenging to find. This one has tiny polka dots. Mint green is on the list with browns now. I always buy brown when I find a good one at Joann's because it seems it's not a popular color these days.

A Zig Zag Quilt

74 x 74

This radiant quilt was requested by a customer. She loves to use hand dyed fabrics in all her quilts. She picked this pattern and asked me to make it leak through the sides.  I used EQ8 to figure out color placement.  I also made it a little longer than the pattern.

I lined up the sides using a ruler across the tips of one of the rows. Of course I thought of this after I put the first side on by eye balling it.

She requested turquoise thread for this quilt, but usually she like hot pink. I just want to remember what it looks like on top of the non blue color of this quilt. It doesn't stand out in this picture below which always surprises me.

Diamond Dance

44 x 44

This is a new pattern by Busy Hands Quilts called Diamond Dance. I found these cute fabrics in my stash just begging to be used so I made the baby size.  Myra's pattern comes in 7 sizes this time so there is a size for everybody.  I choose a dark purple for my pop of color to offset the purple flowered fabric that I used for the main print.

I had fun using the leftover pieces to make the back of the quilt. The blue is a different print than what I used on the front, but it's the same color. I added some white sashing to separate the prints.

Myra has a couple versions of her pattern on her blog today. Check them out here. Then stop by Myra's pattern shop. She has quite the collections of patterns. You can find Diamond Dance pattern here.
