Blogger's Quilt Festival!

Amy's Creative Side

I just finished this quilt a couple days ago and I am so excited to share it with you!  My daughter calls it Rainbow Scrappy.  I love it for several reasons.  I used my favorite scraps to make it.  Each piece reminds me of a quilt I have made, especially the border because that fabric is on my bed quilt.  The entire top is from scraps and I still have more left over!

I quilt for our church's quilt ministry and have been wanting to quilt something special on the quilts but haven't known what to do.  This week I had an idea to quilt words around the border.  But which words?  Our quilts usually go to those who are hurting, but I thought a healing verse would be too hard to start with.  So I decided to quilt some names of Jesus separated by a little motif.

I printed out the words I wanted to use and laid it out on the quilt.  It was like doing a puzzle to get the right fit.  I used the words like a pantograph, but they were upside down or backwards.  Fortunately, it wasn't too hard to trace them that way with the laser light.  You just have to think which way the letters go and do the opposite.

I am glad I tried something new.  Maybe next time I'll use a bolder thread!  I haven't made myself a quilt except for my bed and now that it's done I love it so much I want to keep it.  I need to get busy and make another quilt for the ministry!

Thanks for looking and enjoy the festival!

Quilt Ministry Update

It's been a while since I've posted, but I have 3 quilts to show you.  It's been slow going lately with cutting and quilting, but I think I'm getting caught up!

What a cute quilt!  We used 2 charm packs and a little extra yardage to make this one.  Put the extra on the back as usual.

This one sewed up quickly with the large blocks.

This has got to be my favorite quilt I've seen in a while.  It's a rich and warm, quilted with a spiral square pattern that I just found.  So perfect for a man's quilt.  Quilt Ministry is this Friday.  Hope to see you there!

Coffee and Cactus Quilt

This quilt was made for a friend.  She picked the colors and the pattern to go in her living room.  I love this pattern because it was so easy to sew.  I added the extra pieces to the back for some color.
It's quilted with a meandering vine patter that really shows up on the back.

Magnetic Menu Planner

I saw this awesome menu board planner on this website and had to make one for myself.   If I don't have my dinner plans wrote down and planned out, I tend not to put too much effort into dinner.  With 7 kids that means we eat pancakes, tacos, or something super simple.  That gets old real quick!  Anyway, I have been typing our menu on a Word calendar lately, but this board is reusable and is so much nicer.

I transfered the pdf file to photoshop, resized them (because they were smaller that what I needed), changed the words for the categories and printed my meals.  I only used 3 pages of magnetic sheets even though I doubled a lot of our meals because we eat them 2 times a month.  While I was at it, I thought I should get some new binders for our recipes.  Here's the before:

And here they are now.  I modified the labels in the files from Megan since we don't eat seafood or vegetarian dinners.  The project took me a couple hours, but I already had my dinner items on a list.

More quilts from March

Thesea are the last of the March finishes.  One very springish and the other in soft shades of yellow, gray and black.  Love that one!  Pumpkin manged to get in every picture...such a squirt!  Getting wonderful testimonies back from just about all of our quilts we have sent out.  God is blessing and healing people!
