Heart Quilt

I made this heart quilt for an art show we had at church for Easter. The show was called The Body and the Blood and our art piece was supposed to represent that somehow. I choose this pattern called Have a Heart by Michelle Watts because it was perfect for the body and the blood. The background is "broken" into many pieces and the heart is red for the "blood". He paid the greatest price for us!

I wanted the background to be different than the heart, but I don't have much in my quilting repertoire. So I did a straight line through each line of background fabric and then switched to a loop d loop in the heart.  It worked out great and you can even see it on the back of the quilt.

I had prewashed the red strips of fabric in the sink, but it still had quite a bit of dye in it. Red fabric...I just don't like working with you. But I do like this quilt! Hope you guys have a fabulous Easter and celebrated our risen Lord!

Scrappy Stars

It's time to use your scraps! Put your scraps to good use in this new Scrappy Star pattern. Choose your three favorite colors, add in a background in a variety of fabrics and you will end up with a beautiful scrappy quilt. I used over 30 different background fabrics in my throw sized quilt. I was surprised to find so many. Each of my three colors has at least 8 different fabrics. The more the merrier!

I love scrappy quilts so it was about time I had a pattern in one. There were so many neutral fabrics in my stash and my scrap bins. The stars are made from scraps, but the sashing is made with strips. That helped this quilt go together much faster than you think it would take. 

I had a white and gray print in my stash and used some of the scraps in my three colors to make a strip for the back. I only had to cut a couple pieces to make it long enough. I love the pop of color!

Kite Tails

Hello! How are you all doing? I am usually home, so this isn't new, but there is the stress of getting groceries for 10 and dealing with all that store craziness. One of my kids is out of work until this season is over.  I'm keeping things sane in my house by staying in my quilting room! Creating is a great outlet for stress relief.

This is Kite Tails, my new quilt pattern. Doesn't it make you feel like spring is here? Well it is for us in the south. My kids have been asking when they can go fly their kite. They may get their wish tomorrow as is it is supposed to be windy and sunny at the same time...finally! We've had so much rain here lately so the sun is a nice change.

Anyway, this cute pattern come in 6 sizes. I made the lap size because I was running short on the accent fabric. This fabric line is Nest by Moda and I'm starting to run low! This pattern is fat quarter friendly, but I would recommend on the smaller sizes using  more than the minimum amount. Scraps would even be good for this quilt if you had some larger pieces.  I think I cut one square of each of my fabrics to make 2 of each kind of half square triangle.

Here is the baby size in one fabric. Wouldn't this make a cute baby boy quilt? All you would have to do is cut all the squares from one fabric.

Bee Squared

This is Bee Squared a quilt pattern my son and I designed a while back. There was just too many things on my plate to get it sewed up back then. But now it's all finished and ready for you!  I made the throw size in Pepper and Flax. It's just lovely, I love these fabrics. 

 Here's the queen size in Summer Sweet. I think I would really enjoy this on my bed! But I don't dare add that to my to do list.  Bee Squared comes in 5 sizes from baby to king. The pattern is written for the least amount of fat quarters, but I think it looks better with more. Scraps could even be used for the smaller sizes to add variety and use up those scraps.

Scrappy Doll Quilt

My daughter was playing with her fabric scraps a while back and had laid them out on my design wall. I love that she had lined them up in strips of color.  She loves order just as much as I do. I suggested that we turn it into a doll quilt. The scraps were all different sizes, so much trimming was necessary.  The wonkiness adds to it's charm don't you think?

I has just finished the table runner so was in the mood to continue with my new quilting practice. Josie asked me to quilt some words on her quilt. Okay, sure! Without a plan, I started with her name on the second row. But then has a thought, wouldn't hearts be so cute!  Never having done those, I plunged right in on the top row trying to figure out how to do a continuous heart pattern. Let's just say it needs some work before I try it on a big quilt. I did 3 more rows of this pattern. The other rows are either loops across or words with loops.

The back is also made of scraps that were awaiting their turn to be cut and put in the scrap bin. Josie helped me pick out ones that went together.  It's a perfectly fitting for a little girl to play with her dolls. And when she is older, she will be able to look back and see that her mom loved her enough to not worry about messy quilting. Hearts are hearts, and love is love. Imperfect is perfect.
