Minecraft Quilt

This is a twin sized minecraft quilt. For those of you unfamiliar with Minecraft is it a very popular pixelated game where you build and grow things. Email me if you want the pattern. All the things in the game are made from blocks. I found images online to make my blocks.  I used my Kona Cotton Color Card to pick my colors and I tried to match the colors of the game.  My kids were all too happy to help me with the design.  They even helped rearrange some of the design of the blocks when it didn't look quite right.

I saw a tutorial on how to make the TNT block where you use all 1 inch squares.  Ha!  Mine looked awful and I knew there was no way I was going to get that many tiny pieces to line up. Here it is:

So I decided to use strips for all but the inside of the N and it looks so much neater. Here is my new center of the TNT block:

I think Steve needs some color changes, but otherwise I am quite pleased with how it turned out.

I meandered the quilt with a dark monopoly thread because of the black background. It looks good on both the dark and the light colors. Gray thread would have been too visible on the sashing and I wanted the blocks to stand out.

I found this pixelated flannel at Joann's this weekend and it is just perfect for this quilt.

Originally it was going to have a full green border, but it didn't look good.  My husband suggested just a small strip to break up the black. I think it added a perfect frame for the quilt.

In Laid Tiles

Got another fabric off the list!  I used this floral print in a modern pattern and it turned out great.  You might not consider it a Hard to Use fabric, but for me it was.  Totally not my style of print. Can I tell you I love this block?  It finishes at 8 inches.

I can't remember where I saw a picture of it, but it was on a site from a quilt shop that was having an ugly fabric contest.  Someone had turned a super ugly print into a beautiful quilt using this block.  Since I liked it so much, I grabbed another print and plan on trying it with that one, but my fabric pull is not as bright and colorful as this one.  I'll let you know how it goes.

Like always, I used the rest on the back!  Gone, gone, gone! That's my second and final HTU fabric this month.  Glad I'm done until next month.  I'm now working on some quilts made from bright and cheery solids!

Going for the Gold

This quilt came about after doing a fabric pull for the red floral print.  I only had 4 fabrics in my stash that looked nice with it.  I searched for a pattern and found this one.  The link will only show you a picture, there is no pattern.  I played with placement, changing my mind a couple times before deciding on this one.

It's quilted with a golden brown thread.  I used the remainder of the floral print on the back because it is on of my hard to use fabrics and I wanted to get rid of it! All but 1 or 2 strips were left and sent to the scrap bins. Another HTU in the done pile!

Modern 70's Quilt

I made this quilt from a half a jelly roll.  The jelly roll was warm earthy colors and half cool water colors, but they didn't seem to go together.  So I searched for a pattern that would work.  This one is called Traffic by JayBird Quilts. I have a pinterest board for jelly roll quilt patterns if you wanna look.

These fabrics remind me of my mom's kitchen in the 70's and 80's.  She even painted ceramics in orange, green, and brown.  Such memories!  The white helps to modernize these fabrics as well as this pattern which was fast and easy.

Some orange and green fabric from my stash that seems to go nicely.  I even had enough of the brown to add a racing stripe on the back.

March Goal

My March OMG is to finish making a minecraft quilt.  I got two blocks done last month, but I had to order some more Kona to make the rest of them.  The good news is my fabric will be here Friday! Can't wait to get back to work on this quilt.
